Do You Offer Consult Calls?

Short answer: no free ones. Here's why.

Most therapists offer a free 15-minute phone consultation before scheduling, and some even require one. It's become the industry norm, but it's not a clinical requirement. It's simply one way therapists choose to structure their practice.

I don't offer free 15-minute consults, and I'd rather explain why than simply state a policy.

In my experience, fifteen minutes isn't enough for either of us to make a meaningful decision about whether we're a good fit. It may tell you whether we have an easy conversation, but it doesn't show either of us what therapy together would actually feel like. Consultations are also a mutual assessment. You're deciding whether I feel like the right therapist for you, and I'm determining whether I'm the appropriate therapist for your needs.

I also recognize that not everyone wants or benefits from a phone call before beginning therapy. Many neurodivergent clients, trauma survivors, and people who simply communicate better in writing would rather skip a brief screening conversation altogether. If you have questions about my approach, I'm happy to answer them by email.

If speaking beforehand is important to you, I offer a 40-minute consultation for $50. It's intentionally long enough to have a thoughtful conversation. The consultation isn't an intake or therapy session. It's an opportunity to discuss your goals, ask questions, and determine whether we'd be a good fit to work together.

So here's what I offer instead:

Email me. Ask anything before you decide anything. How I work, what a session looks like, whether I take your insurance, what my approach is with the specific thing you're carrying. I'll answer. I am genuinely happy to go back and forth until you feel comfortable.

Prefer to actually talk first? I offer a 40-minute paid consultation. It's real time, not a sales call, and it's priced fairly.

If it turns out I'm not the right fit, I'll tell you honestly, and I'm glad to point you toward someone who might be a better match.
